'Treasure' - Hsiao-Chi Tsai & Kimiya Yoshikawa

On an impromtu visit to London yesterday I found much to 'Treasure' in Hsiao-Chi Tsai & Kimiya Yoshikawa's work, well done the organisor's of this show for London International Jewellery Week for asking this extremely talented duo to contribute something!

I will confess I am no stranger to their magical work, I remember the Royal College Show in 2006 and the Harvey Nichols Windows in 2007 (check out the website for some great photos of these), before laser cutting broke out, these guys were doing sophisticated and inventive, detailed cutting work on a large scale by hand and still do.

Two photos to add one of their stand at 'Treasure', giving you a glimpse of their colourful statement jewellery and one of their perfectly executed new hanging light that we will be bringing to Winchester for the Pop Up Design Shop unless it is snapped up before (is your hallway big enough? :>). We will be showcasing the jewellery too with pieces performing on the catwalk and in the shop!

The pair offer a commission based service for large scale lighting and sculpture work, there are plenty of examples on their website in each portfolio and are discussing the making of chandeliers - if you can help them with this get in touch with them!

Along with myself and Lighting Designer James Poore we have put in our respective submissions to Lux Craft at Origin. I look forward to hosting their work in Winchester this July 16th - 31st at the Pop Up Design Shop in The Brooks Shopping Centre and to seeing future exciting pieces from them with them going from strength to strength!

Winchester Fantastic Fashion Week Update

Well, very happy but busy here preparing for the Pop Up Design Shop & Gallery!
I have received the latest pics from Milliner KC Lake on our collaborative hat collection, very very exciting and what a talent she is! Of course I am being careful about how much is revealed visually here online before the event but stay tune!

At our monthly South Coast Design Forum Branch meet up last night at the Black Boy pub, Winchester (second Wednesday of the month from 6pm, welcome to come for a creative natter!) Photographer Jackie King popped in and handed me a poster for her One Day Portraiture Workshop on 22nd July covering studio, posing techniques, location portraits 10 - 4pm £95 to book email, meeting point for the workshop will be our very own Pop Up Gallery! So come and photograph some Fashion Week stuff!

Photographer Martin Gardner was also there, Martin will be showing some of his work in the gallery as will Jackie, very exciting! This must be an exclusive!!!!!

I have been contacting the local press about the shop and gallery, nationals to follow!
With garments to deliver for model fittings in Winchester 9th & 10th July and the Pop Up Shop to fit up starting the same weekend and illustrations to get to the Theatre Royal exhibition you can see why I love this event!

Theatre Royal Exhibition - Fashion Illustration, Photography and Film Exhibition, opening from Friday 8th July!

Deryn Relph, another Pop Up Design Shop contributor will be exhibiting at 'Handmade in Britain' at Brighton Assembly Rooms next weekend
and Part 2 of New Designers in the one year on section.

Winchester Fashion Week Update

Hello again! Well time has hurried past and I have not kept you up to date with my activities as well as I would have liked! but it is easy to see how one could become a professional at this! or an addict!

I am enjoying working on Fashion Week or the 'festival' as it is encompassing a number of events thanks to all involved, I haven't mentioned Easter or the Royal Wedding but I had a fabulous time at my father-in-laws party on the green and watched clips of the big day twice then wanted to know all about everyone involved when the media had actually programmed this opportunity on the days leading up to the wedding rather than after - bit of an anti climax if you ask me!

I think unanimously the billions of people thought Kate looked beautiful, William swooned at her befittingly in Westminster Abbey and it was altogether a lovely occasion with the inclusion of I am glad to say some eye catching contemporary millinery thanks to the brave! I enjoyed the glimpses of Nick Clegg's wife Miriam Gonzalez Durantez seen below

I have been creating some new illustrations, just one or two to add to the ones I prepared in January as the marketing material, posters, flyer etc for fashion week is going to print, it's been great to see what transpires! I am a digital collager amongst other things!

The illustration above will be on the flyer for my Pop Up Shop along with some text, it features a wonderful, wearable hat by KC Lake, KC and I are collaborating on a small collection of six hats for Fashion Week using my printed fabrics. KC is a wonder with colour, contrasting materials, trimmings and shapes, combining things I like imaginatively and attractively and experimentally!

Also in this illustration a pair of legs sticking out of the shopping bag - a sneak peak of Tina Tsang's fab ceramics which will also be in my Pop Up Design shop too open from 18th - 31st July at the Brooks Shopping Centre in Winchester.

What else has happened? Well I was photographed last Sunday by lively photographer Jackie King, Jackie and I had met previously briefly when attending a business one to one at 'Making Space' in Havant but by phone I had not connected the voice with the person so was delighted to see her and see her in action! The results are for Fashion week too! She took photos of Graham and I holding up some of his paintings and me with my shades (two outfits for me - good stuff!)

Deryn Relph, knitted textile designer opened her show at the Theatre Royal on till June! Her colourful work will also be in our shop in July! Fab!
Deryn graduated last year from Winchester School of Art and has a background in upholstery. More than a flavour of retro chic going on below! and indeed the chair shows designs from a collection entitled 'Rainbow Retro Rejuvination'.
A pic of this chair has been selected by

I have had fun this evening playing with a font and logo for the Pop Up shop and gallery project I am working on for Winchester Fashion Week, I liked the results so much I used it to create the header for my blog :>
